We are fortunate to live in a county that is vibrant and growing, but we know that not all of us have access to what we need for a long healthy life. While individual health is partly influenced by behaviors, it is also impacted by physical environment and access to resources like healthcare, information, transportation, healthy food and social support.
An increasing number of Mecklenburg adults are affected by chronic health conditions that decrease both the quality and quantity of their lives. Some groups of people suffer these burdens disproportionately. If we want to build greater health and fairness in our communities, we must work to assure that everyone in our county has access to what they need for a long and healthy life.
